There is an often-told story about a little boy playing on the beach when hundreds of starfish wash up on shore. The little boy starts tossing them back in the water one by one. A man notices and comments to the boy that there is no way he can save them all. What difference did he think he could make when there were so many to save? The boy thought about it for a moment, and as he picked up another starfish and tossed it back into the water, he exclaimed, “I just made a difference for that one!”. 

As mothers, Sunday school teachers, or children’s ministry workers, your efforts may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but every soul counts! Every child’s life you touch will not only impact their eternity, but who knows the reach that child will have.

In II Kings we find the story of Jehoash. He was just a child, but his life was in jeopardy. Queen Athaliah sought to kill every heir to the throne. But Jehoash’s aunt rescues him and hides him in the Temple for six years. Her brave act of protection saved a future king who would go on to restore a nation’s faithfulness to God!

The familiar story of Moses demonstrates the impact that one mother’s efforts to save her child made on the deliverance of an entire nation!

Every time you pour into a child, you are planting a seed that will grow far beyond what you can see. You may be ministering to the next great leader, evangelist, or soul-winner.

I’m thankful for saints who gave my pastor a ride to church every Sunday when he was just twelve years old. He won a young girl to the Lord that he rode the school bus with. He later married her, and together they raised four children to live for God and give their lives to the kingdom. All four of their children are involved in the ministry. I married their oldest, and together we serve as missionaries to the Island of Malta. But it started with a young boy with a heart for God and someone who would pick him up and take him to church every time the doors were open.

The course of history, and more importantly, eternity can forever be altered through a single child’s life. Our children are our greatest ministry. You are impacting the world, one child at a time!
